All Leg Veins Are Not the Same

Varicose veins differ significantly from regular veins in several aspects. Regular veins have valves that ensure blood flows in one direction—toward the heart. In contrast, varicose veins have faulty valves that allow blood to pool, leading to the characteristic swelling and twisting visible on the skin's surface.

This pooling of blood can cause a range of symptoms, including aching, heaviness, or a feeling of fullness in the legs—particularly noticeable after prolonged periods of standing or sitting. Some individuals may also experience itching or a burning sensation around the affected veins. In severe cases, varicose veins can lead to skin changes such as discoloration, thickening, or even ulceration in the lower legs.
