Mount Sinabung, on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, has been intermittently active since 2010 after centuries of dormancy. In early 2021, Sinabung erupted again, sending ash clouds several kilometers into the atmosphere and covering nearby villages in ash.
The volcano’s activity has posed ongoing challenges for the local communities, including health issues from ash inhalation and damage to agriculture.
